Boo Bear Inspired Dolls

I was thrilled to receive photos from Marilu Morales who lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth Texas area. She created these adorable crochet dolls using my Boo Bear pattern before it was voluntarily removed. 

I love how Marilu's yarn choices combined with various decorative details create six very different looking dolls. Marilu mentioned she likes to work the head from the neck up instead of as a separate piece because it seems to give the neck a firmer feel and keeps the head from wobbling. What a great idea. I just might give that a go. Thanks for the tip Marilu. 

At the moment, I'm totally into making crochet blankets. When I feel like a taking a break, I could work on creating a new and improved pattern based on these adorable Boo Bear Inspired Dolls. Me-oh-My! Crochet never gets boring. The choices are endless.

Making It Up

A few weeks ago I found a really cute bunny pattern on-line and was thrilled to see it was available for free. I printed it before realizing the pattern included only bunny ears, tail and cross stitch rose design for the tummy. A basic hooded doll pattern needed to be purchased. 

At first I was disappointed then I decided it was time I tried just Making It Up. I have enough experience crocheting toys to make a variety of shapes. I figured I should be able to make a fairly good likeness on my own. For this doll, I started with the feet crocheting from the bottom up, writing the pattern as I worked. 

You may remember I shared a 'sneak peak' look at the body in this post. I finished the body before I took a break to cycle in Cuba for two weeks. Once I returned, I spent another week sorting through my photos and writing about the trip. If you missed it, you can read all about it here. The rest of my free time was taken up with unpacking, laundry and resting. Overnight travel, returning to bitter cold and jumping back into a busy work week zapped my energy. 

I was happy I finally felt ready to pick up my crochet this week and finish all the parts to make Bobo Bunny. I decided to use the Lalylala free pattern for the bunny ears and for the tail I will be making a fluffy little pom-pom. Bobo Bunny is not exactly the same as the Lalylala dolls but he has a similarly cute look. I especially love that I was successful at just Making It Up for a change. 

I still have to join Bobo's parts, add a face and make the tail but I couldn't wait to show you my progress so far. I think I'll finish Bobo Bunny then spend some time writing out the pattern this afternoon. It will be worth the effort as I plan to use my Bobo Bunny pattern again making small changes so every creation is unique.

Blogger According to Matt recently purchased both the lamb and the fox doll patterns. He loved how the instructions were easy to follow and was very happy with his finished projects. I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you decide to buy one of the lovely Lalylala patterns.

Miss Bonnie Blue

With my Christmas decorating done on Saturday, I made another crochet cutie on Sunday. Meet Miss Bonnie Blue with the beautiful blue hair, blue sweater and blue shoes. I think the name suits her, don't you?

I am not yet tired of making dolls from this free pattern and I hope you're not tired of seeing them fresh off my hook so to speak. There are just so many different ways to customize these cuties to keep them interesting. 

With Miss Bonnie Blue I added a full head of hair instead of a hoodlie with hair peaking out. I watched this Crochet Amigurumi Hair Tutorial video by Allison Hoffman of CraftyIsCool. Allison does a fabulous job of explaining the process. I made a blue cap to attach to the top of her head, then added yarn "hair" as described in Allison's video. 

I used a small ball of crinkly blue yarn left over from another project. Luckily there was enough to completely cover Bonnie's head. I trimmed the ends to be even at the bottom with long layers throughout which gives a more natural style. What do you think? Doesn't she look cool with her curly blue hair?

Miss Bonnie Blue is a welcome addition to the Crochet Cuties Club. I will be sure to keep you posted as this group grows. Although I may take a little break to work on other projects. Amigurumi is fun but requires tight tension which can be a bit of a strain on my fingers after a while.
